Fractional CO2 laser: for whom, and when?

The fractional CO2 laser opens microscopic channels in the skin surface to trigger controlled renewal: as the body repairs those channels it produces new collagen, and the skin's texture is rebuilt from below. Acne scars, visible pores, fine wrinkles, and sun-damaged texture are its main uses.

The price of its power is the recovery. Expect 3–7 days of visible redness, swelling, and peeling; during this period the skin is defenceless against the sun, and unprotected skin risks lasting pigmentation. That is why CO2 laser is planned for the months when the sun is weak — late autumn through spring. Be cautious of anywhere offering CO2 in mid-summer.

Who is it not for? Active acne infection, recently tanned skin, a tendency to keloid scarring, and anyone who cannot set aside the recovery days. In darker skin types the parameters are chosen more conservatively — which is exactly why skin analysis comes before the device.

On expectations, honestly: a single session makes a difference, but deep acne scarring usually needs a course of 2–3 sessions spaced 4–8 weeks apart. Collagen remodelling takes time — the real change becomes visible weeks after the session, as the skin settles.

At our clinic, CO2 laser is planned with physician assessment and skin analysis. If you want to have it evaluated now that the season is approaching, we start with an examination.
